                  Rear window is directed by Alfred Hitchcock which was often known as a "The Master of Suspense". He pioneered many elements of suspense and psychological thriller genres. He had directed so many great movies such as Psycho, The Birds, Vertigo, Rear Window, North by Northwest, etc.


Rear Window is about a man with his broken leg sitting on a wheelchair and spies on courtyard neighbours. He then soon suspicious that there is a murder.

Creating Tension

-When the killer is returning Jeff knows and we know that Liza doesn't know.
-Jeff is helpless and it is part of his fault, feels guilty
-The police are coming but don't know when.  (do police get there in time?)
-After Liza got in and facing with the killer, we don't know what they are saying. It is slightly concealed in the killer's flat. We don't know how Liza is handling and how far killer is going to go.
-The killer now realise he is being watch and what is he going to do?

Main Character - Jeff



-grey hair, age 40-50s which show that he is a mature man (tired,restless)
-a broken leg means helpless, show his name 'L.B. Jeffries' written on his splint
-his career? -camera got smashed
                    -photographer - action,sport -explosion,bomb testing so we know that he is brave and has              guts, risk taker. Although, he also take photos of non-action, magazine,female fashion.

Temperature




-thermometer rises leads to frustration,tension
-from the thermometer we know that it is summer, keep windows open (Jeff sees everyone's life through this open windows)
-people tend to be outside - kids playing, dog in the garden

Neighbours

Morning
-man shaving
-radio
-grand piano tells us class/status

Dancer (Miss Torso)
-white pigeons above
-male gaze - let the audience look at it in the male way


Dead Dog




-Cynical
-people don't care - neighbourhood just to see someone suffers and go back in
- Loyalty is lost, non-judgemental/relationship is lost too
-all the lights are on except the killer
