EVALUATION OF ONE MINUTE FILM
07:57Our challenge set is that we struggle with finding settings and rooms to film because we needed a black small room. We also need a lamp to create the dim light but it took so long to film that scene until the bulb broke. We already got enough footage to work with so we can managed.
Creative process
We came up with different ideas and themes at first. I was thinking about making a remake movie while my friends are quite like the idea of interrogation and heist. Then, we could see the possible of making an interrogation film considering sets (in the school) and equipment we had. Our group has 2 gopros so we could use one for handheld shot (shaky camera) and one for tracking shot. We started to add up details and exploring the ideas as we were discussing.
Working together when filming
Personally, I find it quite difficult when filming because we all have very different ideas of how we are going to film, camera angle and such so we had a little argument about it. I came up with the solution that we try it at first and come back and check if it works or if it doesn't. After all, we got the shot we want and it works. I also suggested that we should take the shot from different angle so we can have more footage to edit as well as to make the shot more interesting. For example, when the actor pick up his phone I choose tracking shot and phone is the main focus. Follow with he pressing the button but it wasn't quite clear that he did press that button. So, I added another shot filming up close to emphasize that he was about to press the button which is a very important scene because it leads us to the next scene, climax scene.
In term of team work, I think we didn't got it at first, we started to get things together as we go along. That is because our personalities are so different and each of us want to make it exactly how we imagined it. There are no perfections, we soon learned that we must listen to one another or else this project is going to be just an individual work not a team work. I think it is quite hard to express your ideas , sometimes you show it so the others can understand. That way it is easier and we can communicate and understand better.
Technical
A. Camera We were all involved in filming but I and Nano are quite familiar with using camera so it was easier for us to understand how get a perfect shot and angles. Gopros are for filming shaky camera and action scene because it is suitable with movement scene. I used Fujifilm camera because it gives a quality footage and therefore I can as well zoom in to get the close up shot with the blurry foreground. I wish I could use Canon camera to film this because Fujifilm doesn't good at filming videos compare to the Canon one. When I used Fuijifilm, the footage is quite blurry sometimes if you can't find the focusing point and that is when it is hard to control.
B. Editing Premiere is the program we used because it is very useful and have the effects we want such as the cctv effect. We added voice over to layer it above the footage and the diegetic noise creating the meaning and depth to this story. Moreover, dialogues make the story more in tensed and put audience on the edge towards the ending.
C. Audio equipment We use very basic audio equipment such as audio recorder from music department but still get the quality sound.
FINAL PRODUCT
I particular pleased with the good quality voice over which is layered with the other voices to make it way more complex but also interesting. The camera close up shots are very nice the blurry background so it emphasized on the important object we want to convey the message.
I am also very pleased with how it turns out when things were put together and the editing is clear.
On the other hand, there are a lot of things I want to improve. I don't like that we only had a few footage because I think we should have taken more footage within the same scene but in a different angle. Somehow, I hate shaky camera because it doesn't convey anything much only making confusion. The plot is too simple it doesn't make much sense we should add the details more or give the answer or climax to the first scene.

Gigi, there is some excellent reflection here - what's interesting is that your creative decisions seemed influenced by the technology you had (Go Pros) so there was the temptation to use a lot of motion shots.
ReplyDeleteYou used the word 'solution' when it came to overcoming creative differences which is a great way to approach those situations, also having a go at both ideas and seeing which is most effective in the edit.
Well written (just watch the tenses), well presented. Good work Gigi, well done.
